Effects of this bill
If this bill passes, it means that:
Construction workers and building product manufacturers owe a non-delegable duty of care to current and subsequent land owners to avoid economic loss caused by defects.
Authorised officers may enter non-residential premises with or without a search warrant.
Authorised officers can direct people to provide documents or answer questions for authorised purposes.
The Secretary can take disciplinary action against registered persons or bodies corporate, including suspending registration after a written show cause notice.
Criminal offences are created for disclosing information related to the administration of the Act, contravening registration conditions, or lending a registration to another person.
It is unlawful to obstruct or hinder an authorised officer or to contravene an undertaking accepted by the Secretary regarding registered work.
