Effects of this bill
If this bill passes, it means that:
Service station operators commit an offence if they fail to follow orders regarding fuel price and fuel unavailability notifications.
The law allows orders to require service stations to notify when a specific type of motor vehicle fuel becomes unavailable and the exact time this occurs.
Individual operators face a maximum penalty of 500 penalty units, while other entities face up to 1,000 penalty units for these offences.
Penalty notice amounts for fuel notification offences range from $1,100 to $3,300 for a first offence and $5,500 to $11,000 for repeat offences.
Regulations can now set different penalty notice amounts based on whether a person is a first-time or repeat offender.
A second or subsequent offence is defined as one committed within 12 months of a first offence against the same provision.
