Effects of this bill
If this bill passes, it means that:
The Minister is prohibited from granting, inviting applications for, or renewing petroleum titles, including exploration permits and production licences.
Pending applications for petroleum titles are treated as withdrawn if they are not finalised before the law takes effect.
The Minister cannot grant or renew a petroleum title if the application was deemed withdrawn under the new rules.
The State is not liable for any loss or damage resulting from the refusal to grant titles or the withdrawal of applications.
The State's immunity from liability applies regardless of when the loss occurred, except in relation to the Charter of Human Rights and Responsibilities Act 2006.
