Effects of this bill

If this bill passes, it means that:

The Chief Commissioner can authorize additional powers to serve a firearm prohibition order if the person is avoiding service or their whereabouts are unknown.
Police officers may stop a person in public and direct them to provide their name and address if a service direction determination is in place.
Criminal offence for a person in public who refuses to provide their name or gives false details after being directed by a police officer.
Police officers may direct a verified individual to remain in place or go to a police station to ensure a firearm prohibition order is served.
Police officers can use reasonable force to detain a person without a warrant if they unreasonably refuse to follow directions regarding the service of a firearm prohibition order.
Magistrates can issue search warrants allowing police to break into premises to find and detain a person for the purpose of serving a firearm prohibition order.
Police officers must inform a person detained under a service search warrant that they are not being held for a crime, but for the service of the order.
Police officers are barred from using certain service powers for 24 hours if a firearm prohibition order was not served while those powers were active.
