Effects of this bill

If this bill passes, it means that:

The Local Jobs First Commissioner can start investigations on their own initiative, at the Minister's direction, or following a complaint.
The Local Jobs First Commissioner may issue written notices to enter and inspect premises to check if a person is complying with Local Jobs First or a Local Industry Development Plan.
Agencies are prohibited from accepting tenders that do not include a Local Industry Development Plan or fail to meet Minister-determined requirements.
Agencies must monitor and manage the compliance of contractors for standard or strategic projects regarding local industry obligations.
People or agencies subject to Local Jobs First must meet all reporting obligations under the policy.
Contractors for standard or strategic projects must follow a significant diversion process if they cannot meet their local content commitments.
