Effects of this bill

If this bill passes, it means that:

The Mental Health Tribunal can now hear and determine applications from forensic patients and residents regarding leave of absence.
The Mental Health Tribunal is not required to consider mental health and wellbeing principles when hearing proceedings under the Crimes (Mental Impairment and Unfitness to be Tried) Act 1997.
The President of the Mental Health Tribunal can delegate functions under the Crimes (Mental Impairment and Unfitness to be Tried) Act 1997 to the Deputy President, legal members, or the principal registrar.
The principal registrar and other registrars now perform functions and exercise powers under the Crimes (Mental Impairment and Unfitness to be Tried) Act 1997.
Psychologist members must be registered psychologists with experience in both forensic matters and intellectual disability.
Community members can now be appointed if they have experience in intellectual disability.
Eligible people can hold both psychologist and community memberships on the Mental Health Tribunal at the same time.
