Effects of this bill

If this bill passes, it means that:

A new assault offence is created for anyone who assaults or threatens to assault a customer-facing worker while they are performing their duties.
People who use profane, indecent, or threatening language toward customer-facing workers face a fine of 25 penalty units or 6 months in prison.
Burglary is classified as aggravated burglary if a person uses a vehicle to damage a building to gain entry.
The law defines a worker's duties to include time spent taking a break or arriving at and leaving the workplace.
Definitions for emergency workers, custodial officers, and youth justice custodial workers are updated to align with the Sentencing Act 1991.
