Effects of this bill
If this bill passes, it means that:
Authorised police officers can issue information notices to financial institutions to get details about an account.
Police may use these notices if they reasonably believe an account holder has an interest in property that was not lawfully acquired.
Police may also use these notices if they reasonably believe an account holder has wealth that exceeds their lawfully acquired wealth.
The evidentiary threshold for issuing these notices changes from 'believes' to 'reasonably believes'.
The scope of rules regarding the disposal of forfeited property is expanded to include section 40ZAB.
