Effects of this bill

If this bill passes, it means that:

Vehicle owners registered outside Greater Sydney who own a motor vehicle weighing more than 1,550kg pay no more registration tax than the rate for a 1,550kg vehicle, capping their tax regardless of actual vehicle weight.
Where a rural address has more than one heavy vehicle that qualifies, the owner must nominate one vehicle to receive the tax cap — the other vehicles are taxed at their full weight.
The nomination must be made in writing to Transport for NSW at or before the time of registration renewal.
