Effects of this bill

If this bill passes, it means that:

The maximum speed that can be indicated on a school bus stop zone sign is reduced to 30 km/h.
The maximum speed that can be indicated on a school zone sign is reduced to 30 km/h.
The maximum speed that can be indicated on a shared zone sign is reduced to 10 km/h.
Two new zone types are created: a high pedestrian activity area and a local traffic area. Both can be designated by sign at up to 30 km/h.
The default maximum speed limit applying in built-up areas is lowered to 30 km/h.
The Minister must conduct a statutory review of the legislation governing speed limit signs.
The speed limit changes take effect 12 months after the Act receives royal assent.
