Effects of this bill
If this bill passes, it means that:
Treating a person with a disability differently because they use medication prescribed by a doctor for that disability is explicitly defined as unlawful discrimination under the Equal Opportunity Act 2010.
The same protection extends to any medical treatment received from a registered health practitioner for a disability, not just medication.
The protections are introduced by a private member's bill and come into operation on 1 December 2026.
